Why I Love Being Underestimated

And Why You Should Too

We often care about what others “think”.
Personally I think we care too much.
I care more about what they “know”.
(And what they don’t)

I’m not in a rush for them to find out either. I hold my cards close to my chest. Someone once described me as “Quietly Confident” which is pretty close. Is this a good thing though?

I never planned to be this way, it sort of just became me. Maybe my being around loud charismatic people made me more comfortable to sit back and listen. They were so vocal about their brilliance and would boldly make statements like “I’m better than you at this”. I learned to let them think so. But they never truly knew.

I teach my kids this one phrase:

“Don’t Tell Them, Show Them”

When people talk a good game you have to wonder why?
I’m more suspicious and sceptical of those “who doth protest too much”.
If you make a claim, at least be prepared to back it up.

Maybe I attract them as I make myself an easy target. I use humour in conversation and often use it to play down my strengths. I will mock myself for the sake of a smile, a laugh or…
