“Those who can, do; those who can’t, teach.”
“And those who can’t teach, teach gym.”

Harsh words, and is there any truth to it? We can all remember having bad teachers. And there still exists bad teachers today. But does this group of ‘badness’ speak for them all? Even if true, is there nothing to be learned from teachers who have failed to succeed?

It’s frustrating to hear your children repeat uneducated remarks made by their teachers. It’s even more disturbing when the teacher is failing to effectively teach a subject to the point it is learned.

But is the problem with our teachers?
Maybe it’s our education system?
Or maybe the issue is more cultural if not widespread.

Why Teach?

Teaching isn’t a profession you simply walk into. For under 18’s schooling the levels of qualifications and experience required can be demanding and take several years.

The exception to this rule is becoming a University lecturer. While teaching qualifications are not essential you would still require substantial qualifications and experience in a subject in order to qualify for a position.
