The Crucial Void: Lack of Critical Thinking Skills in Everyday Decision-Making
A Data-Driven Exploration to Unmask the Critical Thinking Crisis
Our lives are full of decision making. starting from what to wear in the morning to your career choices. Decision making is somehow part of your life. What is far less common and in decline is the cognitive action to critically think through a decision.
Critical Thinking Today
The most obvious place where the deficiency of critical thinking is experienced is perhaps in the daily choices. For example, grocery shopping.
When you see a variety of options on the supermarket shelf, you might want to buy food that is unhealthy and/or impulsive, just so you can be swayed by some deals or even your emotional complexities.
If you don’t have the capacity to rationalise options, check for nutritional values and choose healthily, the consequences would be potentially fatal to your well-being.
A 5 litre box of Mineral Water is $5.
Whereas a 6 bottle pack where each bottle is 1.5 Litres is $6.
How often do you think about the cost per litre?
Or do you pick the more obvious cheaper price?
