I mostly agree. I know of a few privileged people who have put themselves into positions of hardship just to better understand situations they can later help with.

One such friend went homeless for a week. Left their wallet and phone behind and tried to survive. Fast forward to now and he's set-up a charity to house, council and train people back into work.

He may be a unique example of course and for the majority I believe your article is spot on.
