“But I’m not selling anything!”

I use to think this way too. And why should you care about Branding? Branding is a fancy marketing word for Reputation. And in building a reputation, you are selling. You’re selling yourself.

Imagine how you feel when your browse the book store. The range of titles and fancy covers vying for your attention. Which one grabs you most?

When you find a book by your favourite author and you ignore the rest.

That’s Branding!

You’re not as famous as your favourite author… yet!

Your favourite author was also in the same position as you are now.
So how did they become famous? Was it because of their writing alone?
Or was it because of the reputation they built? You might say both.

You can be reputationally bad or reputationally good.

“There’s no such thing as Bad Press”

Obviously you’d prefer a ‘good’ reputation but the point is :
either is preferable to being unknown in the Literature World.

I love to experiment with branding. I have several other names under published work spread across various platforms. With each I’ve taken different approaches and learned the importance in Branding and how to do it.

Your Brand Sells More than ‘What’ You Sell

I’ve referred to MrBeast several times as a great example when he teamed up to promote Shopify.

In this advert he used Shopify (an E-Commerce platform) to sell his socks.
He sold out fast yet the entire commercial was to promote Shopify.

The point in my article above is how Shopify wasn’t essential to this process at all. MrBeast known and followed by millions could have setup a store on any platform. He could have created his own or just provided a payment link and he would have still managed to sell out fast!

The reason is simple. MrBeast has built a following, an image, a reputation and… a brand. He is the brand.

This is why there is nothing more important to your success than Branding.
Platforms don’t build your brand. If anything your writing on Medium promotes the Medium brand, not you. But it can still help!

Define Your Niche and Unique Voice

Know Your Audience

Optimise Your Blog’s Design and User Experience

A user-friendly and visually appealing blog design is essential for creating a positive brand image. Ensure easy navigation, quick loading times, and mobile responsiveness. Consistency in design across your website and social media platforms fosters a seamless and professional brand experience.

Develop a Consistent Content Strategy

Consistency is key when building a brand. Develop a content strategy that aligns with your niche, voice, and audience. Establish a regular posting schedule to keep your readers engaged. Consistent quality content builds trust and credibility, making your blog a go-to source for information in your niche.
