Before You Disagree…
Take a Moment to Check Yourself
We all have our beliefs and bias and are quick to dismiss any opinion in opposition. When someone puts forward a challenge it’s easier to nod in disagreement, ignore their points and move on.
But what if you took a moment to check if there is any truth to their points?
You might not want to admit it but they could be right! If you don’t check you risk holding a false opinion and making yourself look foolish.
Echo chambers breed false confidence when surrounded by a majority sharing your opinion. Often the most inane beliefs are those we rarely think to investigate further. We take so much for granted and believe what we hear from those we trust. But even the most trusted sources can get it wrong sometimes.
It’s natural to seek comfort in voices that echo our beliefs. This search for validation, however, often leads us down a path lined with echo chambers, false confidence, and unchallenged biases.
When confronted with opposing views, our initial reaction might be one of dismissiveness or mockery. Yet, this knee-jerk disdain not only limits our understanding but also risks entrenching us further into potentially misguided beliefs.
