Academically you are correct in much of what you say.

And words are twisted yes.

But does the actual meaning even matter now?

Let me explain.

The British public for example take a more simplistic view and they are right to be concerned.

The terrorism seen in the UK alone by Islamic Extremists gives good reason to fear those who use the same words and phrases.

While the original intentions and meanings may be good for some, they are used by Evil too.

How can one distinguish between those who use these phrases for good and those who use it for evil?

For those in the UK at least, this is simply about keeping their streets safe. History has proven many who have used those words are anything but safe.

You will have true intentions but as long as people cannot know who is and isn't evil, that phrase will be received negatively.
